How to choose the right size of cleat

Measure your dog from the elbow, across the back and down to the elbow on the other side. The tip of the elbow is the highest visible joint on the front leg, where the dog rests when lying down. If the measurement on your dog matches the measurement on the crotch, you have the correct size.

If the measurement is in between two sizes, you should consider your use of the cleaver:

• If it's for short trips where the dog will be carrying some equipment, our experience is that most people are most satisfied with the smaller of the two sizes.
• If you are considering longer trips with a lot of luggage, and your dog is well trained and has decent ground clearance, you can choose the larger of the two sizes.

Ground clearance means that the dog has a certain height that prevents it from dropping its paw too far down towards the vegetation.

How old does the dog have to be to wear a collar?

It is an advantage that the dog is grown so that you can choose a size of clog that will fit further. But an empty clog does not weigh much more than a thick blanket, so getting the dog used to carrying something on its back with a light weight is only positive. You must expect that you will only be able to get good results in terms of carrying capacity with a clog from the dog's 18 months of age.

How heavy a load can a dog carry?

How you work with your dog from an early age is up to you as the dog owner. Is the dog used to walking and is it a healthy and strong dog? Have you been good at developing the dog with walks in varied terrain? Large dogs develop more slowly than small dogs. Remember to always start carefully with weight when you start with walking.
