Nome harness

The Nomesele from Seleverkstedet is an ergonomic pulling harness with extra adjustment options in the neck. By ergonomics we mean that it is specially adapted to the work the dog is supposed to do – namely pulling. It has a rear leash attachment with a replaceable and adjustable sliding end, which ensures that the harness lies stably on the dog. The Nomesele from Seleverkstedet has the well-known balance and stability that Seleverkstedet has been known for for all these years, and it is made of solid materials and with a seam that lasts.

A pull harness is a dog harness with a pull attachment relatively far back on the back. Suitable for ski touring, bike training with the dog in front of the bike, sledding in a team and running/walking - training with a bungee and belt. The most important and unique feature a pull harness should have is to give the dog free airways and good freedom of movement when pulling with a load. The harness neck should allow free shoulder movement and not prevent the dog from moving its front leg forward. To adjust the neck opening, tighten the top strap on the harness neck.

Which types of dogs are suitable for Nomesele?

Nomesele is a traction harness that fits the rectangular and slender dog. Rectangular breeds and types include setters, German shepherds, huskies and other types and breeds that are similar to these. The 5 sizes ( XS - S - M - L - XL ) range from approx. 16 kg setter bitch to German shepherd of approx. 35 kg. If you have a dog that falls outside this category, our adjustable traction harness TrekReg will be the best option.

How to put on a Nome harness

When the harness is pulled over the head, the neck fur is pulled well forward under the harness neck and the harness is pulled backwards while the dog's head is held down in a horizontal line with the back. This is the dog's body position when pulling. The rear end of the harness without the rope loop should end approximately at the base of the tail (where the tail leaves the body).

How to find the right size:

See the size chart and choose a harness that fits your dog's measurements.

  • NECK MEASUREMENTS: Measure the circumference around the neck close to the shoulder blades where the neck opening will be.
  • BACK MEASUREMENT: Measure from the middle between the shoulder blades - the point just above the front legs which can be felt as two noticeable ridges and back to the base of the tail (where the tail sticks out from the body).
  • HEAD SIZE: A nome harness should fit well and may be a little tight to get over the dog's head. One tip is to turn the neck opening 90 degrees when putting it over the head.

Our experiences regarding sizes and dogs for Nomesele since 1981:

S - husky bitch - groenendael bitch - setter bitch - standard poodle male - springer spaniel male - airedale terrier bitch

When used with a dog sled

The back loop on the harness is used to regulate the total length of the harness in relation to the dog's physical length and the connection point on the leash/wire. This ensures correct load distribution and distance between the dogs in the team.

Maintenance/washing

All equipment will last longer if it is well cared for, and it is also more pleasant for the dog. Avoid leaving it unkempt over time.
The harness can be machine washed at 40 degrees in a laundry bag. Leave to dry at room temperature - DO NOT tumble dry as this will deform the foam in the padding.
Also look for loose threads and lightly burn them off with a lighter.
